Kasa Rasa : Community Waste Processing Centers

Location : Bengaluru

Supported By : Caterpillar Foundation, CHF (Global Communities),
Capgemeni

Kasa Rasas (Essence from Waste) are community waste processing centers built under PPP model. Saahas is the pioneer in setting up these centers where the land is provided by the Govt., the infrastructure is supported by Corporates and the center is established by a non-profit organization.

The Kasa Rasa centers showcase the decentralized waste management philosophy where a community’s waste is handled within the community and resources are recovered from the waste. This model also provides dignified livelihood opportunities for the waste workers.
Saahas has helped set up three Kasa Rasa centers in Bangalore at Ejipura, Koramangala and Doddanekundi.

The Kasa Rasa centers handle 1-2.5Tons of waste per day and provide livelihood to 4-5 staff per center. Segregated waste from community is brought here. The wet waste is composted in tanks and the dry waste is further sorted into different recycling categories and sent to the appropriate recycling destinations. The non-recyclable dry waste is sent to cement factories for coprocessing.
Anyone can walk-in and witness the running of the centers. These centers showcase a successful decentralized waste processing model.

We encourage you to visit our centers to get a first hand experience of how waste can be managed for maximum resource recovery. Contact Us to schedule a visit.

These centers are open to public for dropping of dry waste and e-waste.
