Background:
According to the 2011 census, India has 4041 statutory towns out of which about 3500 are towns with populations less than 1 lakh. These towns have very rudimentary waste management systems and the officials lack the capacity to implement SWM systems mandated by the SWM Rules 2016. These towns are a key focus area for Saahas and if we can demonstrate holistic and robust SWM systems in these small towns, it will catalyze replication and have a huge impact on the overall SWM situation in the country.

Objectives:
The objective of our intervention is to help the CMC of Hebbagodi to increase it’s collection coverage, improve source segregation among the waste generators and set up adequate facilities to process the segregated waste. This is being implemented in phases spread over three years. We are engaging the community through interactive games and activities to spread awareness and get them to inculcate the habit of source segregation. Campaigns are also being carried out to promote adoption of sustainable menstruation products and other waste reduction habits.
