Background/Need

Hebbagodi is currently facing significant challenges related to open dumping, particularly in areas with a high immigrant population. Open dumpsites tend to emerge on almost every street and gradually become permanent disposal points, leading to unhygienic conditions and adverse health impacts for nearby residents. Additionally, the existing Dry Waste Collection Centre (DWCC) is located within a residential neighbourhood, which poses a risk of complaints from residents. If these concerns escalate, there is a possibility that the DWCC may be displaced, further affecting the efficiency of waste management in the area.

Objectives:

Saahas is working in collaboration with the CMC to strengthen waste management systems in Hebbagodi. This initiative includes:

  • Establishment of  the Kasa Kiosk
  • Removal of Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs)
  • Supporting the beautification and improvement of the Dry Waste Collection Centre (DWCC)

In addition, Saahas will actively engage with citizens to encourage the handover of properly segregated waste and coordinate with CMC vehicles to ensure timely waste collection. Regular Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities will also be conducted in the neighbourhood to raise awareness about the use of the kiosk and the importance of waste segregation.
