      Job Description

    The role of the Director, Programs is to develop strategic plan and oversee the deployment for identified program verticals of Saahas in identified region/s. The Director, Programs will report into the CEO/COO and will guide all projects in a region/program vertical, which could include guiding a team of 5-8 Project Managers/Lead Coordinators. The Director, Programs will also be a part in the core team to develop the strategic direction of the organization. The current position is for the program vertical “Institutionalizing Solid Waste Management in Rural Areas of South India.”

    We are looking for someone passionate about solving issues around solid waste management and setting the roadmap for circular economy in India through on ground implementation of concepts and ideas.

      Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement long-term strategy for growth of Saahas in Southern states/UTs of India for institutionalizing Solid Waste Management in rural areas.
  • Develop project proposals, mobilize resources, develop partnerships with funders, plan recruitment of suitable manpower.
  • Enlist the cooperation and assistance of Government Departments, NGOs and other citizen initiatives wherever required, to ensure achievement of objectives of the organization.
  • Develop annual strategy, budgets and operating plans for the vertical to support the program objectives.
  • Develop program impact evaluation framework for each program to assess the strengths weaknesses and to identify areas for improvement.
  • Guide, monitor and provide regular feedback to the Project Managers and Coordinators to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Review project progress, budget utilization and manage client/partner communication for the programs, ensure compliance with the partner formats and all confidentiality requirements.
  • Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization and also comply with all the relevant legislation and professional standards.
  • Monitor and approve all budgeted program expenditures and ensure financial discipline.
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks
  • Conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework, report evaluation findings to the CEO with recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate.
    • Working Conditions
  • Director, Programs will need to balance time spent in field and in the office. There will be requirement of out station travel, typically for short durations for project monitoring and stakeholder meetings.
  • Director, Programs works a standard work week (6 working days with 2 Saturdays of choice off in a month) and sometimes may be required to work late evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the organization.
    • Experience
  • 18 years or more of overall work experience, preferable at least 5 years in Development sector.
  • Client relationship management experience. Experience in working with Government will be preferred.
  • Project Management experience, handling teams of 10 or more people, especially at remote locations.
  • Work experience in Karnataka, especially rural areas, will be preferred.

  • The role of the Project Manager is to oversee the day-to-day management, quality assurance, and reporting requirements of different (2-3) projects.

    Scope of Work – Field Supervisor

  • Supervision of the door to door collection staff and driver, maintaining record of attendance and work hours.
  • Creating awareness on Solid Waste Management for HH’s & commercials & Maintaining waste collection records.
  • Maintaining segregation record (how many houses gave segregated waste, how many gave mixed waste).
  • Generating weekly and monthly reports on their specific work areas.

  • Constantly reinforce the concept of segregation and ensuring that waste gets effectively segregated at the household level. Giving feedback to households who are mixing waste.

  • Organise despatch of Dry Waste to sorting unit and Cement factories and maintaining record of the same. Organize sale of recyclable dry waste to scrap dealers in the nearest city and maintain records.
