Background:
Juniper Networks has been working in the Orohalli Gram Panchayat since 2016. The intervention started with a focus on health and education and gradually solid waste management, watershed management, and other thematics were added to provide a holistic development approach for the villages.

Objectives:
The objectives of the Asha Kirana - Namma Halli Orohalli project with respect to solid waste management are 2-fold. In phase 1 of the project, a dry waste collection system using an electric collection vehicle was set up covering all 11 villages. Two dry waste units were set up where the waste was sorted and sent to recyclers. The second phase involved training SHGs to run the waste collection and processing system, and also upskilling them in tailoring, bio-enzyme making, and soak making. The objective is to promote local livelihood generation and reduce packaging waste for the items that are made locally,
