Background:
The Mitigation Action project will accelerate the low-carbon development of India’s waste sector through various actions taken by GIZ India to the central and selected state governments. 'Circular Waste Solutions', is a Mitigation Action Facility-funded project which is executed by GIZ and Trichy City Corporation where Saahas is the implementation partner aimed at reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions from the waste sector by promoting low carbon waste management practices among the people through organizing different IEC events & Capacity building activities. The project is also being implemented in four other Indian geographies, namely Varanasi, Patna, Bangalore, and Goa.

Objectives:
The objectives of this project are:

  • To Implement Source segregation and ensure a minimum of 75 % Segregation in 40,000 HHs in Trichy
  • Organize Exposure Visit and Capacity Building activities for Sanitary workers of Trichy
  • Organize SUP ban awareness events in 5 selected markets along with setting up information boards. 
  • To promote home composting, and sustainable menstruation practices among Trichy Citizens
  • To run a Dry waste campaign in 5 schools to promote source segregation among students
  • Document and disseminate the models developed for replication and scalability
  • Contribute to knowledge product development and knowledge exchange between actors in the chosen cities.
