Background:

As cities expand, the villages which are on the outskirts get integrated into the municipal limits. However, this integration is mostly ad-hoc leading to inadequate delivery of basic services. The city of Gurugram has many urban villages which are part of the municipal corporation limits but do not get the same attention of the authorities as the more urbanized part of the city for providing basic amenities like roads, water, electricity or solid and liquid waste management,

Objectives:

To showcase a sustainable waste management system in an urban village through maximising resource recovery and promoting circular economy. Implementation of 3-way source segregation in 2000+ HH’s and establish a decentralized system in Nathupur village. The project focuses on enhancing the livelihoods of waste workers by increasing their income through access to well-segregated dry waste. It also seeks to increase active citizen participation and raise community awareness through engagement and campaigns. To ensure visual cleanliness, the project will conduct deep cleaning, beautify dumping sites through wall art, and improve the visual cleanliness of the village.
