Background/Need

PRIDE Cooperative, a collective of waste workers, plays a vital role in local solid waste management through the collection and recovery of dry waste. However, the cooperative operates largely within an informal framework, with limited governance systems, gaps in regulatory compliance, and inefficiencies in material handling and market linkages. These challenges constrain its ability to scale operations, ensure worker welfare, and integrate effectively with formal waste management systems. Strengthening PRIDE’s institutional, technical, and operational capacities is therefore critical to transforming the cooperative into a resilient, compliant, and sustainable enterprise while safeguarding livelihoods.

Objectives

  • To formalize and strengthen PRIDE Cooperative by establishing robust governance systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, improving operational efficiency through SOPs and appropriate technology adoption, and strengthening value-chain linkages to secure sustainable and dignified livelihoods for waste workers.
