Background/Need: Thiruvallur Gram Panchayats currently face serious waste management challenges: irregular collection, high levels of mixed waste disposal, and open dumping. Despite some infrastructure and land availability, usage remains minimal, and awareness is extremely low. With growing urban pressures and a significant migrant population, there is an urgent need to establish a structured, inclusive, and sustainable solid waste management system to protect public health and the environment.

Objectives:

  1. Build Capacity of local officials, staff, and waste workers for sustainable operations.
  2. Improve Waste Collection through route optimization and structured systems.
  3. Enhance Source Segregation through intensive IEC and door-to-door campaigns.
  4. Promote Circular Economy by enabling reuse, recycling, and 3R initiatives.
  5. Provide Infrastructure Support for dry and wet waste processing through MCC upgrades, composting, or biogas units.
