Background/Need: Gurugram’s rapid urban expansion has led to a significant increase in the generation of municipal solid waste, placing immense pressure on the city’s centralised waste management systems. With limited infrastructure to handle this scale and complexity, a considerable portion of the city’s waste continues to be sent to the already overburdened Bandhwari landfill.

Objectives: The core objective of this proposal is to institutionalize and scale source segregation among BWGs in Gurugram and ensuring that segregated dry waste is systematically channelized to the designated MRF and diverted from landfills, either directly or indirectly. Specifically, the initiative seeks to:

  1. Door-to-door engagements with households and commercial units BGWs to inspire waste segregation.
  2. Capacity building ofhousekeeping staff and other support staff in the ecosystem.
  3. Waste streamlining or traceability establishment into formal waste management systems leading to diversion from landfills.
