Community and waste concessionnaire
Chennai has 200 wards across 15 Zones. Velachery falls under Zone 13. It houses the offices of many IT companies/Corporates and contains many of Chennai’s Tech Parks. It also contains many residential areas comprising of open layouts and apartment complexes. The concessionaire appointed by the GCC does the collection in this area but the waste collected is largely mixed because of poor source segregation levels. This is leading to very poor resource recovery and most of the waste is ending up in the landfills, in spite of the presence of zone-level Micro-Composting Centers and Resource Recovery Centers.
Objectives:
This project aims to improve the source segregation levels in 4000 households and 200 shops in Velachery to greater than 80%. SUP ban implementation and creating of zero-waste temples are the other objectives of this intervention.
