The aim of the program is to support 6 GP/9 villages covering approximately 26000 beneficiaries to set up a decentralized solid waste management system in each Gram Panchayat with the following objectives:
• Greater involvement of the community in waste management activities in the villages. Prevent littering and improve the hygiene and cleanliness level in the selected villages.
• Maximize resource recovery from waste and significantly reduce the requirement for landfills.
• Improvement of environment. Reduced pollution due to the prevention of dumping and burning. Improved visual cleanliness, eradication of blackspots, and cleaner drains.
• Generation of income from user fees, recyclable dry waste, government schemes, and compost sales for economic viability.
• Improved and systematic process of waste management in GP. Demonstrate a replicable and scalable solution.
• Dignified livelihood and improved work conditions for the sanitation staff.
- Baseline survey to assess the current practices and develop a comprehensive strategy to implement SWM in the villages
- Assist Gram Panchayat in setting up SWM infrastructure in the villages
- Make system and processes for the door-to-door waste collection of wet, dry, and domestic hazardous waste
- Dry waste sorting and develop a supply chain for the waste from each village
- Composting of wet waste and engaging local farmers to use the compost
- Development of IEC collaterals for effective community engagement
- Community Engagement Activities like Mohalla meetings, clean-up drives, dark spot beautification, and school student engagement activities etc. to promote community participation in the SWM system of the village.
